Imovane (generic name Zopiclone) has been used for
years as a treatment for insomnia. It is more popluar outside of USA
being prescribed regularly in markets like the UK and other EU and
Asian countries. A close US equivalent to Zopiclone is the brand name
sleeping pill Lunesta TM whose active ingredient and generic name is "eszopiclone."
For many people most of the sleep medication sold in pharmacies does
not work well for them, especially after the first night they take it,
if taking it for an average of 5 consecutive nights. This is because
the active chemical contained in the drugs sold over the counter next
to your tylenol and aspirin is just your basic antihistimine.
Antihistimines are medicines that primarily do two things. They
stop a runny noses and stop sneezing. Antihistimines are great for what
they are intended for, but it you notice many drugs containing
antihistamines will be contained in so-called "night time" medications
because antihistamines usually cause drowsiness when you first start
taking them. The packaging will also say "May cause drowsiness" on
antihistamine medicines usually marketed as cold medications. However
because antihistimines can cause drowsiness, many pharmaceutical
companies market the same ingredient in your cold medicine as sleep
medicines. If you can function through your day while taking
antihistimine cold medicines without getting to drowsy, then OTC (over
the counter ) sleep medicines probably will not help you very much to
get to sleep.
Medications like Imovane are not antihistimines, they act on the body
differently to work with the body's mechanisms that control sleep.
Imovane (zopiclone) is called by different brand names in different
countries. You might be taking Imovane but did not know it because it
is called something different where you live, or you might be taking a
generic prescribed version simple called by its generic name
(zopiclone) written on the container. Some different brand names you
may find for Imovane are Limovan / Ximovan / Somnosan / Insomnium /
Zimovane / Zopiclona / Zopiclonum / Datolan / Imoclone / Zopicalm /
Imozop / Amoban / Mozop / Rhovane / Zodurat / Siaten / Zop / Sopivan and Optidorm among others.
